Mustang 45th Birthday
Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL
April 16-19, 2009

17 SMMC members headed to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL to mark a milestone in automotive history:
Mustang's 45th Birthday on April 16-19th.

Brian C. led a caravan of members down on Thursday morning while other members met us there. We enjoyed a trouble free trip & made it in time to register & head for the Thursday night cruise in Homewood, AL. Homewood closes off several blocks & Mustangs take over the town. Local shops stay open & a live band entertains the crowd. It was great having Skip & Nancy Y. drive in from NC to catch up with members and Jim & Joanne S. ended their FL winter with the club trip.

Friday proved to be a fun-filled Mustang day heading to Barber for the show, shopping vendors and meeting other Mustang enthusiast from STL and around the world. Friday nite members got together at the hotel for a snack buffet & margaritas! We had so much food other guests thought the hotel was putting on a buffet. One of the vendor booths had a giant Mustang birthday card that participants could sign. We were told that this would be put in Ford corporate after the event. Also, Ford provided Red, White & Blue hoods for participants to sign & those will get a special coating & be brought out again at the 50th celebration.

Saturday offered many moments of checking out Mustangs, shopping vendors & enjoying racing. Congrats to Cheri W. for joining the SMMC Sequential Taillight Group on Saturday. I don't think a show has passed that Classic Design Concepts hasn't had SMMC in their booth for this modification SMMC members Mark A. & Reg S. signed up for track time & even took a few members out with them during the day. The Mustang Challenge Series ran a race and then held an autograph session with all the drivers. Some of us choose a car when they hit the track & encouraged our chosen driver to do well. Mitch again apologizes to Cheri for taking out her car (well, not really but trying to be polite  haha!). The drifting cars entertained fans several times throughout the day & that just didn't get old watching them. Saturday night a couple of members headed to the banquet while the rest grabbed dinner at a local restaurant (we had the best waiter!) and then went back to the hotel to watch the Nascar race & have a few more margaritas.

Sunday found members heading home, one last trip to the vendors & some hit the museum to see the #1 Mustang and the Mustang Concept car.
